Following a situational analysis of pangolins in the Bakossi National Park area, poaching and the illicit international trade and local people’s preferences for pangolin meat for its taste and treatment of traditional ailments were found as major threats to pangolins in the area. In response to these threats, CAD developed a Pangolin Conservation Strategy and Action Plan for the Bakossi-National Park and its surrounding areas. It should be noted that pangolins have Class A” protection status in Cameroon, included in “Appendix 1” of the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species (CITES) and classified under the IUCN Red List as “endangered or vulnerable to extinction.
